Moonlight Sonata's mate;
He was my Baby Boy, very much loved,
He never knew how it felt to hate.
Sweet and gentle little man,
Prissy and regal was he.
Not much of a fighter, more of a lover,
Spirited, wild and free.
Bought from a pet store, only 5 months of age,
He latched on to me, right off the bat.
He was spoiled and loved and cuddled a lot,
Though roughly the size of a rat.
He loved to go walking with my brother, Dave,
Following him everywhere.
Slept in his bed and howled when he'd leave,
Running with never a care.
He seemed lost without Moonlight, after she passed,
And clung to us even more.
Running after Dave, each time he'd go walk,
He could slip like a ninja out the door.
Graceful and free, head held high,
He slept with crossed little paws.
It's hard getting used to him leaving us,
Dead from a pit bull's jaws.
A neighbor moved away, leaving their pit
To roam freely on our street.
Vicious and mean, it ran after
Each animal and person it'd meet.
Dave left the house for the mailbox,
Gizmo tromping behind, gracefully.
Out of nowhere, the pit caught him up in its jaws--
In an instant, it was gone like the breeze.
Eight hours, our Gizmo fought;
But steroids didn't save his life.
His neck and back were broken,
And breathing caused him
Too much strife.
Only a month after our Moonlight left us,
Gizmo went to join her in the Light.
Now he is buried in the backyard,
Forever by Moonlight he lies.
