Little House on the Prairie

Why is it Still Popular?

I know such a variety of people that like the long running show of Little House on the Prairie. Myself included. People young, old, and in between of all ages and sexes. So what makes this show such a timeless show, almost of it's own era? It was a simpler time when people had to go without so many of the things we can't imagine living without. Yet there was no shortage on the concept of family and neighbors. Right did not always conquer over evil but that always persevered together. Though many episodes made me feel sad and were very depressing they were good life lessons. Appreciate what you have, do unto others, love thy neighbor. Despite the sweetness of the Engles family, they kept it real. Good people make mistakes too and forgiveness and love kept things together.

There is also the humorous side. You had to love Laura and Nelly's little and sometimes not so little spats! Mrs olsen was not the nicest person but when it really came down to it, she showed that she wasn't actually the devil! One of my favorite things about the Olsens was the relationship between Mrs. and Mr. Not the most loving relationship, though sometimes hilarious. It was just so heart-warming on the rare occasion that the two of them had real moments and even Mrs. Olsen showed love for Nels!

Of course Charles Engles was a wonderful, loving husband and father. Nice to see with so many absent fathers today. He was so generous and kind but a true rock for those that needed him. All that and a sense of humor, wow. What more could a woman ask. A man that could cry and still be totally dependable and strong! Mary on the other hand just kinda got on my nerves with her tragedy after tragedy and such the whiner. They can't all be winners I guess. Laura was so like her Pa, strong and kind but she took less crap and was a bit more stubborn! Times were simple but there was no boredom and plenty of beautiful miracles. I feel like I know the folks of Walnut Groove to the point that if they are playing an especially sad episode I prefer not to watch!
