Little Kittens Adding Up

The Tiger Woods Body Count

Cherrie Webb
I was perfectly content to put Tiger in the realm of the Sarah Palins and John Edwards of the world, but it's impossible to do. Every week since Elin cold-cocked him with the four-iron, we've had a new chippy come out of the woods claiming some link to the golf superstar. I don't get it.
Elin is a beautiful woman, though not nearly as cute as I am. We can see from the Tiger-ettes that a black woman isn't what he wanted. How sad for him. Every Black woman I know would have kept her mouth shut. We want the money to keep pouring in. While not trying to appear racist, it just seems that white women are wired different. They don't like to accept infidelity even though "boys will be boys". My nonBlack friends seem to think that Elin would be the exception and that whatever wunderlust Tiger may have had would be magically controlled by Elin's fake boobs and bad dye job.

At last count, there were 14 suspected females that Tiger was linked. The man made a billion dollars; I would have stood in line too. I could have met him in Australia or England or wherever he stashed his golf clubs. And it has nothing to do with his looks. I find him physically unattractive. For my circle of friends, we agree that it's all about the Benjamins.

We could go back many years when Tiger would have been lynched for just looking Elin (or any white woman) in the eye. And so the stereotype continues. Back in the 60s (when I grew up), success for a black man was a Cadillac and a white woman. Elin and a Lincoln Navigator (or three) meant that Tiger was indeed successful. Successful and greedy. He should have stayed single rather than put his children through a scandal later. Fortunately, right now they're too young to know that their daddy is tart-magnet.

There have been reports that Elin has been seen out and about without her wedding ring. There has been talk of divorce, of marraige counseling, of trying to work it out for the sake of the kids. They are even renegotiating the prenup. Tiger has lost sponsors. That family image that he worked so hard to convey now we know was eerily fake, a ruse. He's just like any other man, only richer. And Tiger, while you're at it, have the kids been DNA tested?

Just as OJ didn't own up to his blackness until he was in trouble, Tiger will do the same. Now that he needs the support of Black people (some of whom have never considered golf a sport), there have been polls and graphs and charts. What the pollsters don't understand is that a great majority of black people haven't considered Tiger a major player in our world. We are not the group that his endorsers seek. If we happen to buy Tigerade or an SUV, then so be it, but he hasn't been one of us for awhile.

There is a part of me that hopes Elin takes him to the cleaners. Since they've been married his game has suffered and now he's not playing at all. What good is an athlete that doesn't play his sport? I heard that he's hoping that this blows over and things can get back to normal. Too late for that.

Once again, I'm getting out the popcorn and waiting for the real show to start.

What we want now Tiger isn't the press releases from your "people". We want to know what happened. This is too juicy to pass up.
