Little Known Facts About Johnny Galecki of Big Bang Theory

The Actor Who Plays Leonard

Ever Odessa

Johnny Galecki plays the character of Leonard on the sitcom Big Bang Theory. Prior to his role on Big Bang Theory, he was best known as the character David on another funny show, Roseanne. The following is a look at some little known facts about the actor.

A Big Gay Jiminy Cricket

Fans of Jonny Galecki might remember him in a small role alongside Ben Affleck in the movie Bounce. He was cast as Seth. Something you might not know, though, is that the role of Seth was actually written specifically for Galecki. In an interview with The A.V. Club, the actor referred to his character of Seth in Bounce as a "big gay Jiminy Cricket."

Speaking of Gay...

Partly because Johnny Galecki has played several gay characters, many have speculated on the actor's sexual preference. The fact he won't come out (no pun intended) and say one way or the other just fuels further rumors. While implying that he's straight, he says that he doesn't address the rumors because he does not want to defend himself against something that is not offensive.

A Geek Hiding in the Bathroom

Because he plays the geek Leonard so convincingly on The Big Bang Theory, you may not know that the actor was not geeked out about going to public school in Chicago. In an interview with Time Out Chicago, he talks about how he would hide in the bathroom to avoid math lessons on long division in school. In fact, he dropped out of school after the 8th grade.

Who Needs School Anyways?

Not actors apparently... Geek or not, Johnny Galecki didn't need to go to school because he was working professionally by the time he was of high school age. His first job was a little known sitcom called American Dreamer.

Or Parents?

Not only was he working professionally, but Johnny Galecki actually lived on his own in Burbank, California by age 14. His parents and other family didn't like it out in California so they went back to live in Chicago, leaving him alone to work and pursue a dream. Living in Cali without parents around sounds like a lot of teenagers' dream, but the Big Bang Theory actor describes the experience as not being that fun, saying that it was "intimidating and lonely."

Traumatized Jennifer Love Hewitt

In his role for the teen horror movie I Know What You Did Last Summer, a scene required him to appear dead with a crab crawling out of his mouth. That scene apparently disturbed actress Jennifer Love Hewitt so much that the production was temporarily shut down.
