Little Known Facts About the Movie Night of the Lepus

Bridget Ilene Delaney
Night of the Lepus is either considered to be one of the best B horror films or one of the worst horror films. It is one of the best B horror films to enjoy how bad it is and laugh at the movie. However, if a real horror movie is wanted, it is one of the worst films to watch. There are still some fun little know facts about the movie.

It was almost called "Rabbits."

Night of the Lepus was almost called "Rabbits." However, MGM would not let the film be called "Rabbits." This is because they did not think that the movie would be taken seriously as a horror film if the title of the film was "Rabbits," so it was changed to Night of the Lepus .

The killer rabbit sounds were made by normal sized rabbits.

Killer rabbit sounds were needed for the movie. These were made by having normal size rabbits run around on miniature sets and recording the sounds that were made.

No rabbits were on the promotional poster.

This was another move by MGM to keep people from finding out about the rabbits too soon. They again felt that if people found out about the rabbits too soon, the movie would not be taken seriously. Thus, only people and eyes peering out of the dark appeared on the promotional poster.

Lucky rabbits feet were given as promotional items.

In a move that made no sense, lucky rabbits' feet, painted with red paint, to resemble blood dripping from them, were given out as promotional items for the film. It is unclear how this would not let people know that there were rabbits, especially potential killer rabbits, or at least something that killed rabbits, in the film.

"Lepus" means "rabbit."

The part that makes the least sense is that "lepus" is Latin for rabbit. Perhaps the general population did not know that "lepus" meant rabbit, but anybody that had studied the genus and species of rabbits would have known this since "lepus" is Latin for rabbit. The information could easily be taught to high school classes and given to people of all ages.

excellent writing; thank you for sharing ♥ Hard to believe what the film industry will try to stuff down our throats. I am still irked about "Georgie Girl" being black and white and bbbbbbbbbboooooooring. Walked out of that one within 3 minutes.
