Michael's faced a challenge in his first year of college: homesickness. He spent many nights on the phone with his mother, begging her to bring him home. After the Hoakies football season ended, she did just that. He stayed home for a couple of days and then returned to spring practice.

The Colorado Rockies selected Michael in the 30th round of the 2000 Major League draft, even though he hadn't picked up a baseball or swung a bat since the ninth grade.

Michael Vick, along with his brother Marcus and mother Brenda, announced in June 2006 the formation of The Vick Foundation, a non-profit organization that will support at-risk youth and after school programs. The organization will be for youth in the Metro Atlanta and Hampton Roads areas.

And where is this information coming from that he is a upstanding person. I know this was written before the dog fighting was exposed but Vick used to go out to clubs in Atlanta and use fake names and sleep with random girls that didn't know who he was and then wouldn't be able to contact him when she became pregnant

Michael Vick is an example of a young man who is immature, overindulged and lacking in judgment. This issue of violence and cruelty is both an individual problem and a systemic one. Professional football glorifies the aggression, yet players with little life experience, far too much money and no self discipline are frequently being told the rules do not apply to them. Here is a young man with two children, a third on the way now facing prison for his impulsivity and poor judgment.
