He graduated from Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Delaware. After high school, Oz received his undergraduate degree from Harvard in 1982. It is interesting to learn that he played water polo and football at Harvard.

He attended Wharton Business School and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, receiving joint MD and MBA degrees in 1986. Here's another fact, Oz was President of the Student Body while he was in medical school.

He is a cardiac surgeon, a professor and Vice Chairman of Surgery at Columbia University in New York City, Director of the Cardiovascular Institute, and Founder and Director for the Complementary Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Interestingly, he was the medical director for the 2002 film, John Q, starring Denzel Washington. The film revolved around a man whose child needed a heart transplant.
In addition to the radio show he hosts on Oprah & Friends radio, it's interesting to learn that he's published in numerous magazines, and appears on many TV and news programs. He's the chief medical consultant for Discovery Communications, and will appear in several Discovery TV programs.

Does Dr. Oz follow his own dieting advice? You be the judge. He reports that he doesn't eat large meals, but eats constantly - in very small portions. His primary diet consists of foods that are heart-healthy and fiber-rich. Dr. Oz loves eating nuts, baby carrots, and bananas.

He also likes steel-cut oatmeal, dried soup (black bean, chick pea and couscous in particular), and fish. Dr. Oz and his family love to have a smoothie for breakfast. It delivers power, nutrients, is filling, and is heart-healthy.

Here is his favorite smoothie recipe, The Magical Breakfast Blaster:
1/2 Large banana, peeled and cut
1 Scoop (1/2 cup) soy protein
1/2 Cup frozen blueberries
1/2 Tbsp apple juice or honey
1 Tbsp psyllium seed husks
8 oz water
Peel banana; break into chunks. Combine all ingredients in a blender, with a few cubes of ice if desired. Cover; blend until fairly smooth.

He was born to Turkish, Muslim parents, in Cleveland, Ohio on June 11, 1960.
