Little Known Nevada Casinos

I live in Nevada and spend most of my off-the-road time in my home state. I have been in lots of different casinos and decided to review some of them for you.

Silverado Casino in Fernley, Nv.

Silverado is a casino, restaurant and bar one block off I-80 (exit 48) in Fernley. The people are friendly, the food is excellent (like all the other casinos, they have gone to non-smoking in the restaurant section). They have a Starbucks that serves all the coffee. I don't like Starbucks, myself, but it seems to sell very well. They have a wide variety of games. Poker machines and Keno machines are quite popular. They also have a large number of theme games from "Reel 'em In" to "Frog Prince" to "Lobster Mania." It's a great place to stop and rest or play if you're traveling across I-80.

Chukars Sports Bar in Fernley, Nv.

Chukars Sports Bar and Casino is located at exit 46 on I-80, in Fernley, Nv. They have big screen TV's and sports memorabilia. The food is very good and the plates are filled. They have a big gaming room, loaded with both machines and table games. Whatever you like to play, you can probably find it at Chukars. The staff is friendly and readily available to assist you if there is any problem with a machine.

Dini's Lucky Club in Yerington, Nv.

Dini's is a family owned and operated casino on Main St. in downtown Yerington. Yerington is at the crossroads of 95A and Hwy 208, south of Fernley, Nv. The games are plentiful and the dining room serves great food, including buffets Monday, Wednesday and Saturday of every week. Joe Dini, former Speaker of the House of the Nevada State Assembly, is the owner and comes in every day to meet his guests. If you want the finest dining in Yerington, try Giuseppe's Steak House, located in Dini's. It's the place to go for Chamber of Commerce meetings, Christmas parties, wedding receptions and all the bigger occasions. The atmosphere, service and food are wonderful! The Dini's Lucky Club bar, the Cellar, has live music on weekends.

Casino West in Yerington, Nv.

Located at the corner of Main and Broadway in downtown Yerington, Casino West has a huge gaming area, restaurant, two bars, a bowling alley, a movie theater, a motel and a conference room that can hold several hundred people. It's one of the poling places on election day. The buffet is enormous and served every night but Monday. In the lounge there is a show every weekend with Steve Long (who does a mean Elvis impression.) Other nights of the week you can go to karaoke in the back bar.

The El Capitan in Hawthorn, Nv.

The El Cap (as the locals call it) is a full service motel, restaurant and casino. If you're driving to Las Vegas from northern Nevada, it's right on the way. The food is good, the games are great fun, they have live music on weekends, and it's a good place to take a break during the long drive between Reno and Las Vegas. There's only one road that connects the north and south, so Hawthorn and the El Cap is right on the way.
