It's that time of year again, and baseball season is in full swing, for both professional and little leaguers.
I remember fondly, pleasant memories of watching these games, with my own children, and now will be doing so with grandbabies. What a thrill to watch these little guys play the game with passion. How fun it is to win, how difficult to lose. After a loss they might hear the old cliché, "You'll get 'em next time!" As true as that can be, it doesn't really help the competitive little slugger, who really wanted to win.
Nonetheless real life lessons can be learned from the game. As in life, some win and some lose. It's a fact of life. However, the same in both, is also true, you get up to play/work again. It is not in winning that we learn the value of winning in life alone, but in the occasional losses, that teach the true value of winning.
A team sport is dependent on the team members playing together for the benefit of the whole team, as each player will learn later in life. In life, it is usually the efforts of a team, working together, that brings success to families, organizations, and business.
While individual effort is required, it is by working together, and sometimes pulling more than one's weight, that the job gets done. It is not in looking out for number one alone, but in looking out for others, as well.
The Bible says, "Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth." 1 Corinthians 10:24 (KJV)
It is in seeking other people's well-being, that our focus changes to a mentality of giving, and thus we are taken care of, as well. It is in giving of ourselves, that we find a greater purpose and joy.
