Little League World Series: The Championship Teams

A Look at the Little League World Series Championship Teams

Catherine Betzabe
Since its introduction in 1947, the Little League World Series has crowned a champion every August, and has so ever since. The tournament is held in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania and is dedicated to baseball players aged 11 to 13 years old. Originally the tournament only included teams from the United States, but as of 1957 it has included little league teams from countries all around the world.

In 2001 the tournament doubled its total amount of qualifying teams from 8 to 16, with 8 teams coming from the United States, and 8 coming from other countries. The 16 teams qualifying teams are then divided into two brackets, the United States Bracket, and the International Bracket. Each team is then randomly assigned to one of two pools were they compete against each other, leaving the top 2 teams in each pool, to advance to the elimination tournament. The 1st place teams then play the 2nd place teams from the other pool in their respective bracket, with the two winners advancing to the semifinal round, which is also known as the United States and International Championships games. The U.S. champion and the International champion, then advance to the Little League World Series Championship Game, and their shot at being crowned the best little league team in the world.

Here is a look at the past Little League World Series Champions, Championships by Country, and Championships by U.S. State.

the latest comment was a game at the regionals in Vancover and yes we GOT TWO RUNS AGAINST BIG MR. CAMPBELL WHO WAS SLIPPING AND SLIDING IN HIS TENNIES IN THE RAIN ??

The only consolation I have is that we lost on a bad call by just one run to San Jose who went all the way in 1962. I beleive that no one else came as close as we did to beating them. I had my corduroy suit packed to meet then President Kennedy which was not to be. There were two out in the bottom of the 6th and I was the pinch runner on first base, I got a great jump as Danny Thompson hit a shot between short and third, by that time I was rounding second and would have tied the game if the short stop does not come up with a snow cone catch lying in the mud. (IT HAD BEEN RAINING ALL DAY--DRIZZLE) Unfortunately, he got up and threw Danny out according to the ump---otherwise I WOULD HAVE SCORED EASILY. At that point it would have been tied 3-3 and we would have still been batting for the victory with 2 outs. Richard- #$%$ Fawell

Very cool stats. Looks like Taiwan hasn't won in a while.

Little League was and is a great activity for boys, though historically, not so great for kids not particularly good at it but wanting to be part of the game.
