The Little Manatee River is a nearly 40 mile long river, designated as an outstanding Florida waterway and is part of the famed Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve located on the eastern banks of Tampa Bay. Canoeists and kayaking enthusiasts frequently enjoy the slow moving and clam waters of the Little Manatee River. Canoes may be rented by the hour or day at the parks visitor center and ranger station.
But you don't have to be a water lover to enjoy all of the great outdoor activities at Little Manatee River State Park. A six and a half mile hiking trail winds its way through the park. Skirting the river and eventually traveling into the parks remote northern wilderness, the hiking trail takes visitors along through many diverse ecosystems and wildlife habitats. A primitive campsite is located along the trail for those who would like to enjoy the real Florida outdoors. A reservation is required before camping at the primitive site.
For those who prefer to travel on four feet instead of two may take their horses on the 12 miles of equestrian trails that meander throughout the park. There are also four equestrian campsites that feature two stalls. RV's and tents are welcome at these full power and water sites.
But you don't need a horse to camp at Little Manatee River State Park. A 34 site full facility campground offers guests a chance to spend the night after cruising the trails and river. Amenities include electricity and water at each site as well as a picnic table and fire ring.
The sites are divided by native plants, allowing each site to feel secluded from the rest. Restrooms are nearby each loop complete with hot showers and a coin operated washer and dryer. A youth campsite is also available upon request for large parties. RV's up to 68 feet in length are welcome at Little Manatee River State Park.
