COMMENTARY | Are you joining the latest social network Little Monsters? If you're a true Lady Gaga fan, now's your chance to join the social network from the mother monster herself. Facebook seems to have a new rival everyday, but this is the first time an artist has decided Facebook or Twitter isn't enough for their fans. Lady Gaga has decided her fans need a place to call home and has launched the site Little Monsters, named after her massive fanbase.

How To Join

Currently, the site is by invite only. While the social network is the in the beta test mode, you must fill out the small invite form on the website. No public release date is available as of yet. All you need to request an invite is your name and email address. If you already have an invite, you'll receive email instructions on how to sign up. At the moment, I haven't received my invite yet, but with thousands of shares and tweets, I'm probably in for at least a short wait.

Site Design

Lady Gaga's vision of the perfect social network for her little monsters is similar to the highly popular site Pinterest. She plans to let members create and post videos and photos. Most likely, we'll see quite a bit of Gaga fan videos, wannabes and just eccentric personalities coming out to play. Users will also be able to share their favorite content with other users on the site.

Gaga's manager, Troy Carter, is one of the four founders of the company Backplane. Backplane's first community building site project will be Little Monsters, with more sites to come. Unlike massive social networks like Facebook, the company wants to create real communities where users share a common interest.

Does The Site Stand A Chance?

First, let's look at the numbers. Lady Gaga has over 19 million followers on Twitter. Her videos on YouTube have over a billion hits. She definitely has plenty of fans. With so many Internet users obsessed with social networks, Lady Gaga fans will be trying the site out at least. However, Gaga is a strong advocate for gay and lesbian rights and against bullying. Many of her monsters are those who have been bullied or feel like outcasts.

A social network focused on her fans and those who cause she champions will be successful. You don't have to be a fan to join. If you want a community where you're accepted for who you are, Little Monsters may be perfect. If you just want to share all your favorite Lady Gaga moments with people who feel the same way, request an invite now.
