There are millions of custom Harley Davidson motorcycles on the roads and in garages today built by big name builders and small timers as well. Names like Jessie James and Orange County Choppers are readily recognized by chopper enthusiasts. But does the Little Shop of Choppers ring a bell? It probably does not unless you are a bike lover that lives in the Florida Keys.

The Little Shop of Choppers in Marathon, Florida run by Johnny Maddox and Mark Rowden build solid bikes that turn heads. Their two main show bikes are Yellowbird, a soft tail and Badass, a Sportster. These bikes are consistently taking first place in these categories in bike shows in South Florida. Most recently they took first place respectively in Fort Lauderdale Toys for Tots Run Under the Sun bike show.

They are winning because their back to basics approach to bike building. Yellowbird, is an immaculate soft tail that has an in-tank GPS and LED lighting as its only high tech trickery to win the crowd. Its paint job is yellow with plenty of clear coat to make it stand out and a frigate bird in black on its front fender. Sounds simple but a solid paint job with the proper chrome accent on a solid build turns heads. It shows well and it rides well.

Badass, has a nitrous oxide injection set-up to separate it from the crowd. Its solid paint job with pin striping and clean chrome accents just attracts the eye. Clean, classic bike building along with plenty of attention to detail and detailing seems to be the key to winning.

Both of these bikes spend time on the road between shows. That fact that impresses me, they get rode and still win. Functional and beautiful, simply elegant builds that appeal to real bikers. While many builders look to impress with the outrageous, solid builds are not lost on the true aficionados that judge bike shows.

Look for Yellowbird and Badass to continue their string of first place finishes.
