That Make a Big Difference

If you have a small master bedroom yet long for the open feel of a larger one, try using mirrors in your decorating scheme. This can be accomplished in a few different ways. Many people will tell you to use mirrors to make use of mirrors, but fail to explain why and what they will do for your home. Mirrors all aver the place will look overdone and can actually make your room look cluttered. This is the exact opposite of what you want. Over decorated rooms look smaller. You need to use mirrors in a strategic way to get the desired result.

If you have a very small room, place your first mirror near a window. This will allow it to reflect light. Light is you best friend. This will give your room a continuing effect. Next, if possible invest in mirrored closet doors. This will give you an amazing feeling of more space with just this one move. It practically doubles the room, and it also gives you a very nice mirror to dress in front of every morning. For times when this is not a desired effect, you can easily cover the doors with chic curtains. In a very small room, you will have to remember that even though a mirror can reflect light, it also reflects everything else. This translates into a zero clutter room for you. Be careful not to over furnish the room. Remember that you are trying to create the feeling of space, so leave as much of it as possible.

If you have an average sized room, you can make it have the appearance of a much larger room simply by arrangement. Choose a dresser with a wide mirrored top. This is a starting point. Now, place a decent sized mirror on the wall across from it. This is a great way to trick the eye into believing that there is much more to the room than there actually is. A wonderful way to give the illusion of more space is to cove the tops of your night tables with round or squared off mirror tops. Placing candles on these doubles the amount of romantic light at night and doubles the amount of visual space during the day. A long dressing mirror on a small wall or even behind the door can also open up a room. Some people love the look of side by side framed pictures above their bed. This can also be accomplished with framed mirrors. It also looks very elegant.

Mirrors can literally open the space that you are working with. Take these tips into consideration when picking out your small master bedroom decor. Good luck!
