Live it Up like Queen Latifah at the Grandhotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic

Rochelle Connery
If the name Grandhotel Pupp rings a bell, it's probably because you saw it featured in Last Holiday, starring Queen Latifah and LL Cool J. When Queen Latifah receives an erroneous CAT scan report telling her she has three weeks to live, she drains her bank account, packs her bags and heads to Prague, Czech Republic for several days at the Grandhotel Pupp.

This hotel is not a fictional one designed just for Last Holiday. In fact, short of New York City's The Plaza hotel, this resort enjoyed perhaps the most advertising time of any hotel in a Hollywood movie.

Rates

The Grandhotel Pupp is probably not as unaffordable as you expect. The grand foyer and luxurious rooms in the movie (as well as the price tag per night given by the sweet receptionist at the check-in counter) lead one to believe that it's just for the rich and famous. But one glance at their price sheet says otherwise.

While rooms at Grandhotel Pupp are anything but cheap, they're no more than many popular resorts in the United States. As of 2010, a single room goes for 240 Euros, or around $320. Prices rise from there until they reach the presidential suite, which books for 1450 Euros, or just under $2000 per night.

Room Types

Grandhotel Pupp has you covered for nearly any room need. Choose between regular single or double rooms, junior or premier suites or even apartments. If you want to get really fancy, you'll enjoy the imperial or presidential suites.

If you or your family have special needs, select the double room or junior suite built specifically for disabled individuals. The disabled rooms do not cost any more than their standard room counterparts.

Each room comes with standard amenities, including a private bathroom, minibar, satellite TV, telephone and internet access. Just hope it doesn't get too warm in the summer, as only the apartments and suites have air conditioning.

Dining

The Grandhotel Pupp features a number of cafes and bars to choose from in addition to the Golf Restaurant and the Grandrestaurant Pupp. But don't expect to select from a wide variety of gastronomy offerings. The chef wasn't kidding in Last Holiday when he said "no substitutions." The Grandrestaurant Pupp features one seasonal menu at a time. You'll have to take any other dining desires up with the chef.

Spas

If you thought the treatments Queen Latifah enjoyed in Last Holiday looked luxurious, you haven't seen the half of it. As a guest at the Grandhotel Pupp, you get to choose between treatments at the Pupp Royal Spa and Tawan Spa and Health Club, both of which provide massages and different types of bodily health treatments.

If you want to get your hair done for a special event at the hotel or if you forgot to schedule an appointment before your trip with your own hairdresser, get pampered at the Frank Provost Paris hair studio inside the hotel. You can also get a manicure or pedicure while your hair color sets.

The Grandhotel Pupp has everything you could possibly want in a vacation right there on site. Plus, each room features a great view to boot. And it's probably more affordable than you thought.
