Concept of acid/alkaline balance in our body to keep diseases at bay isnt a new one.Therapies involving detoxification of our bodies with Ayurveda, herbs,colonics,fasting,herbal massage and diet modification have always aimed at alkalizing our body.Most of the diseases that are caused are due to toxification of our bodies due to acid accumulation in our body.Moreover,acidic condition of our body also leads to premature aging.Even if we eat the best of organic fruits/vegetables,most of it will still be converted into acidic waste,one of the reasons for accelerating our aging process.Excess acidity weakens all our body system and also damages our vital organs.If we have to maintain healthy body we have to maintain an alkaline reserve in our body to neutralize the acidic waste and remove it from our body.The main two organs which are severely affected by acid accumulation are Kidneys and Liver.But over the years body has developed means to proptect our kidneys and liver-but at a cost.This cost is translated into obesity,diabetes,cancer,arthritis,clogging of our arteries,etc.If the pH value of our blood drops from the optimum value of 7.36 to 7,we may lapse into coma and die(pH value is used for determing acidic/alkaline nature of any solution-a value in excess of 7 is alkaline and less then 7 is acidic).

To achieve the acid/alkaline balance in body we should consume a 80/20 mix of alkaline/acid foods.Below mentioned are some of alkaline foods:
VEGETABLES:Wheatgrass,alfalfa,barley grass,asparagus,broccoli,beet,celery,carrot,cauliflower,cucumber,garlic,mushrooms,sprouted pulses,onion,eggplant,lettuce,peas,pepper,pumpkin,etc
FRUITS:Apple,apricot,avacado,banana,cherries,grapes,grape fruit,watermelon,peach,pear,pineapple,orange,lemon,tomato,etc.
PROTIENS:Almonds,chestnuts,chicken breast,eggs,flaxseeds,whey protien,yoghurt,cottage cheese,etc
SPICES:Chillies,pepper,cinnamon,ginger,mustard,etc
OTHER:Apple cider vinegar,bee pollen,green tea,ginseng tea,herbal tea,etc.

The acidic foods include red meat,fish,lobsters ,turkey,olive oil,sunflower oil,safflower oil,corn oil,white bread,rice,cashew nuts peanuts,soya beans, butter,soy milk,black beans,kidney beans,beer,hard liquor,wine,etc.

The other method of alkalizing your body is to drink alkaline water.
