Nowadays, we have high speed connections capable of transferring high quality video and images in a matter of seconds. A picture can be taken in Moscow and instantaneously received in the most remote areas of say Africa. Technology has not only increased our potential, but also made it possible to increase our efficiency. But with all these efficient and productive advantages of technology, we also possess the ability to take our procrastination and laziness to new heights. Where the Internet was once meant for transferring a few text documents, and occasional images, we now have the ability to watch feature length films online, as well tv shows and various stunt clips. Sites like YouTube pander to the voyeur of such worlds, with the quickest of clicks a signal is sent and within minutes a user can be viewing the latest music videos or just the heart-felt emotions of a pre-pubescent teen.
Much the same, a site called FreeTube seemingly bridges the gap between Television, Internet and Social Networking. FreeTube appears to be service that allows you to watch television directly within your browser, by making usage of streaming video feeds that it mirrors. Most impressively, the site boasts a wide assortment of channels including many popular channels like CNN, IBN, HGTV, ABC, NBC, Al Jazeera, ESPN, NASA, WWE TV, Cartoon Network, and a multitude of various other channels. Some channels are not really of interest to most users, like the specialty channels that seem to comprise one such category of the site. However, the sites channels are ordered by content, so you can very easily select what channel you wish to watch at any given time. There are eleven (11) categories, each filled with several channels within them. Each channel has its own content and programming independent of the rest and depending on your mood you can select whatever content you wish to view. The majority of channels are live, meaning you can in theory watch live sports events, and whatever other content that you desire to watch on such channels. Some more obscure channels offer daily or hourly content, so in which case the channel is updated on a set interval and content may only be available on these channels for a limited time.
There are some adult channels available on FreeTube, but much like the rest of the Internet discretion is advised and I believe FreeTube does provide a warning before displaying such content - ample warning and time to change channels if you are so inclined. The nifty part of FreeTube is the design of the site, which surprisingly makes it rather simple to navigate, but what is more interesting is the collection of 'Videos On Demand' that are available. As such, the videos are categorized and you can find even more videos by further navigating the site's categories. Surely there is something for everyone on FreeTube, and it's interesting to see the site seems to be taking some interesting, if not confusing, twists. The site is definitely one to watch, and further developments apparently include a schedule system to let you identify what is being watched and possibly what is coming soon and can be watched at a later point [read tv guide].
