LiveOps: Customer Service Work from Home

Erika V. Cox

LiveOps is a company out of Florida that hires people to work from home as customer service agents or virtual service agents, which just means working from home. I worked with the company for a number of years and it was a good place to start or even stay if you like doing the work. I first worked for the company during its beginning stages when there were very few, if any, calls. It was a hard struggle to stay with them when you log in to take calls and there are none mainly because you are paid per talk time, so in other words to get paid you will need to take a call. Now, there are plenty of calls from a number of clients and your calls will pick up eventually.

I will not bash the company because I have nothing to gain or lose by doing that, but I will give you the pros and cons because I like for people to know exactly what they are getting into with no surprises or give you a bunch of rosy details when everyone's experience can be different. I worked for the company for about four and a half years on and off. The company takes calls for many of the infomercials that you will see on TV during the day and late at night. Again, the pay is per minute per talk time. The pay stands right now at .25 per minute that you speak with a customer. The company pays every two weeks and pays either by direct deposit or mail. You can schedule what times you like to work. There are hours throughout the day, night, and weekends. However, weekends are the busiest times and the holidays. You can work this job full-or part-time.

For the most part the company pays on time, although there have been some delays, they are not enough that it is a serious problem or will give the company a bad reputation for being an inconsistent paying company. There have been some changes since I applied with them back in 2001, so I'm not quite sure if some of this information is completely accurate but like I said in my work from home article being independent-minded and doing your research on all work at home companies is essential. There may be a background fee that the company charges you. That is not paying for a job and does not constitute a scam. There are some work at home jobs that require you to pay for a background check. Although I don't see why the company has you pay, LiveOps is big enough to pay for the background check themselves.

A background check is definitely necessary because you will be taking personal information from people. However, background checks don't cost that much, I think for LiveOps it may be around $20-$30. You will receive training on how to take calls. You will basically be taking order information for people calling in to order products they see on TV. It is very easy work. The company requires you to say the complete script that appears on each page word for word. These scripts can be four or five pages long with three and four paragraphs, so be ready to speak a lot. There are some things I didn't care for but it may be fine to you. The first one is the fact that you have to completely say the script even though the customer says he/she is not interested in any additional items.

You have to finish the script, if you don't you will be written up or deactivated and not able to take calls. Second, most of the scripts come with a bunch of upsells things you have to offer the customer that are extras. You also have to read upsells for things that have nothing to do with the product and are pretty lame and unnecessary, like magazine subscriptions. It is really not selling because you only need to read the upsells not try to actually sell the product, but if you just absolutely hate selling you may not like it. My other problem with this company is that to me you are treated like an employee although you are an independent contractor. Being written up is for employees not independent contractors, in my opinion. Also, you are penalized if you are unable to take a call for things that are totally out of your control, like bad weather that disrupts your phone service or takes your Internet connection down. This to me is utterly ridiculous. However, there are positives and you may actually love the job and have no problems with their policies, there are a large number of people who absolutely love the job and the work and have been doing it for several years. It is worth a try, if you are looking or needing to work from home and have the ability or desire to do phone work.

Paying for a background check is the norm when you are an independent contractor. I've been involved with and have worked many work at home jobs since 1999.

I am in training for Live Ops I paid for my background and that is not the "norm" but it filters out those who shouldn't apply. I've been 1099 for 4 years and the companies I've worked for paid for everything. But it was 40 bucks so I paid now I'm in training to try it out! Wish me luck.

This company has been around for almost 10 years offering wah positions. They require a background fee, which is totally acceptable and normal, because you are an independent contractor NOT an employee, so you would expect to pay for some things before working for them. What you don't want to do is pay in order to get a job or pay for a list. There are many wah jobs that require payment by you for a background check. This company is not a scam there are people who are working part time, full time and making a decent income.

I have paid the $175 for the background fee to work at LiveOps. It is only for a particular client of theres. To work for the usual LiveOps the background is suppose to be around $50. There are many people who have paid the $175 and say it is well worth it. I will hopefully find out very soon. For anyone who is questioning whether to do it, visit www.workspace.liveops.com and read through the forums. You can learn all the good and all the bad.

I was emailed today telling me I was accepted and I also needed to pay $175. with a credit card. Looks to me like if it is a good company they should not be charging anyone up front. Maybe taking a certain amount from your checks maybe, but before you even know for sure you have a job. l don't know if I should be trusting about this or not. What does everyone else think?

My question is when do you get this designated line for liveops? or do you get in based on faith that you are getting the job? I would really like to know if I can do this after being accepted after phase I?
