I ended up in Urgent Care and then in the hospital to run scans and tests. It could lead to having surgery on my colon if not treated and caught in time.
Diverticulitis is from eating nuts and seeds and they get into the "pockets" of your colon and it becomes infected. In some cases, it leads to being abcessed. This is really upsetting to me as I love to cook and bake with nuts. I love sunflower seeds in my salads. Now I can't even have a sesame seed bun or a snickers bar or even a strawberry. Forget having jalepeno peppers as well. Seems like everyday, there is something else of a nut or seed that I find I cannot have. Anything of seeds or nuts are not for me anymore.
I have strawberry yogurt that I cannot eat and some strawberry ice cream as well. I have recently learned to like tomatoes and now I cannot have a tomato. I did buy a seedless cucumber. I guess I can buy the seedless grapes. With summer approaching, I will have to buy the seedless watermelon. Maybe that is why some things are grown seedless for this sort of thing! Just a guess!
I love nuts and seeds. I love using them when I bake or cook. Who can refuse a pecan or a macadamia nut? I love candied pecans in a certain salad. I love to eat macadamia nut crusted halibut. Now I have to give up all of these and be sure to drink my metamucil daily! This is a diet change for me.
I am still in the healing process, and I am on 2 different antibiotics. Soon, I get to have a colonoscopy. Wow...sounds like fun...NOT!! My neighbor had this last year and was hospitalized. He even had a hole in his colon and became septic. Thank God he was diagnosed and had successful surgery. He cannot have seeds and nuts in his diet ever.
Then I hear friends who will say to me that it gets worse. This is only the beginning. What? The doctor told me that if I do everything I can and I have another episode, that I did my best to prevent it. So that is what I am doing. Others tell me it can lead to colon cancer.
I guess it is good to have the colonoscopy! I hear they aren't that bad.
Just when you think things are going good! Watch out for seeds and nuts!
Obviously, they can be bad for you! Who knew?
