Living Healthy with Foods that Help Lower Cholesterol

The lipids in your body, better known as cholesterol, are a major source of energy for all human beings. However, they are not the only one, and do not help in large amount. Too much cholesterol can cause many different problems to your body. The circulatory system is the most affected, because high cholesterol levels will lead to a higher risk of vascular accidents and heart attacks.

The cholesterol in your body comes from two sources. Much of it is produced by the liver. Humans and animals both produce their own cholesterol, as it is necessary for proper health and functioning. Naturally, when we consume animal products, our bodies absorb some of the animal's cholesterol. It is known the fact that a diet rich in fats leads to a higher cholesterol levels in humans. Therefore, by reducing our fat intake, we can work our way down to a normal cholesterol level.

There are two kinds of fats you need to be aware of if you're worried about cholesterol: unsaturated fats and saturated ones. In order to reduce the blood cholesterol, one should be very avoid consuming excess saturated fats. These are commonly found in meats and dairy products, so be careful about how much of these you eat.

Proper diet should help you to achieve healthy levels of fat in your body. In order to get rid of the extra cholesterol one should follow a special diet designed for specific objectives: reducing the saturated fats from the diet, reducing the cholesterol intake, restricting sodium and increasing the quantity of fibers and complex carbohydrates. You can't just eat foods that help lower cholesterol; you have to make a significant lifestyle change if you care about your health.

Foods That Help Lower Cholesterol:

- Fishes such as mackerel, salmon, tuna and herring. These contain healthy fatty acids called Omega-3. This acid helps your body with maintaining a low cholesterol level.
- Use spices and herbs to season food, instead of salt.
- Complex carbohydrates such as whole wheat also help. They are an important source of energy without having the same effect that lipids have.
- Some high fiber foods that help lower cholesterol are: apples, oats, spinach, beans, egg plant, barley and broccoli. The soluble fiber in these types of food will absorb some fat from your body and help to flush it out.
- Yogurt is another good food because it improves the health of your digestive tract.

In addition to increasing your intake of foods that help lower cholesterol, take a multi-vitamin daily. This will help your body to run more smoothly and give you more energy.

Also keep in mind that smoking, stress, caffeine, drugs, alimentary additives and environmental pollutants are harmful to your health, and therefore bad for your body's management of cholesterol. Living a healthy life is the best way to keep your cholesterol levels in check.
