Living in a Healthy Home

Tonya Smith
Other than work, home is where we spend most of our time. I want that time to be the best and most relaxing that it can be. That way, I can greet the world renewed and refreshed. But when our home is disrupted or off kilter, we can feel it and so can the people around us. I am going to provide a few tips that help me keep my home and family at their healthiest.

1. Clean the house. If there is dust or dirt around the house, it does affect you. If you have ever been home and as soon as you walked in the door, you sneezed, then you have a dust problem. Your first culprit is the air filter in your home's heating or air conditioning system. If your house is like mine, you need to change your filter at least every three weeks or once a month. I live down a long and dusty dirt road and that dust comes straight into my house. When I say to change your filter, you can save some money by just blowing out the dust from that filter and using it again. I would only do this two times or so. After that, the filter is about as finished as a good book.

2. Clean your mind. Life is so full of stuff to halt you in your tracks. So many things that go wrong or bad, and all we can do is live with it. So make your home a sanctuary by bringing only good positive thoughts into your mind at home. I don't mean living in a dream world all the time. You need to prepare for things, but when the bills are paid and the grass has been cut, take time to sit down and quiet your mind. I have a "spirit room" in my house. This is a space dedicated to meditation, daydreaming, looking within myself, ect. Whatever you want to call it, this is a must for a balanced and healthy home. Everyone in your family deserves a space of their own.

3. The people you invite into your home should be people that you enjoy. Their energy is trapped inside your home each time they visit. So, if you have a neighbor that you don't really like or is creepy, then meet them on the porch and chat. Anyone you invite in has a affect on your home and personal health. So be careful who you invite in.

These rules have made my home a sanctuary for me and my husband. Anyone who comes over remarks about how homey and comfortable they feel there. We have many birds, squirrels, dogs, moles, spiders, and bees that call our 2 acre property home and they feel welcome. I am thankful that I can provide a safe place for all of us to live. I hope that these points will help you get your home and life into a healthy balance. Good Luck.

I try to lead as simple life as possible. This is not always easy to do because it is human nature to complicate things. I work with the public and enjoy helping people whenever I can. We all need a littl...  View profile
