Living the Legacy of Hope -- a Black History Sonnet Poem

Arene Penelope
Do not fret when a door slams in your face -

Know that there's more than one way to get there.

Your gift's too large to bottle in a vase,

Too intricate to define from a stare.

Your destiny rests solely in your hands -

Do not go nuts from sweating the small stuff.

Instead maintain a steady gaze and stance

Even when living in times that are rough.

Don't be invisible with adherence

To a sad life of low expectations.

Black history's shaped by perseverance -

Triumphs overshadowed devastations.

Past dreams were zones oppressors could not sway -

Let's live the legacy of hope each day.
