Let's check out Favre this season with the Vikings. First of all the Vikes are 10-1 thus far. They could be undefeated if Chester Taylor would have caught the game winning pass from Favre late in the loss to the Steelers, instead of bobbling it and letting it turn into an interception that ended the game. Favre only had 2 interceptions in the first 6 wins. He had one in that loss during game 7. He hasn't had one since (3 INT's lowest among starting QB's.) That against his league leading 24 touchdowns.
Favre also has the number 1 overall passer rating of 112.1. He is in the top 10 of virtually all the statistical ratings for quarterbacks in the NFL. The Vikings have swept both the Packers and the Lions in conference play, and have a win over Chicago already too. Favre has the Vikings sitting at number 2 overall in the NFC meaning home field advantage (indoors) up to the championship game.
Starting a career best 6-0 and with career highs this year for completions, lows for interceptions and fumbles, you could argue that this is his best season ever. Don't forget that this man is 40 years old and has started a record Gazillion games in a row (including playoffs.) He also had offseason surgery on his throwing arm this past offseason.
Favre had the Packers one game from the Superbowl two years ago. Last year he had the Jets 8-3 and on the fast-track for the Division Title and playoffs before he got hurt and the season ended horribly. Remember the Jets were 4-12 the year before Favre. Heck, the guy has had only one losing season his whole career (he had one 8-8 season too.) Favre already owns almost every record a quarterback can achieve. He has made two Superbowl's and won one.
So go ahead and mark my ballot for MVP. Pencil Favre in. This guy is putting together the most remarkable season yet, in a career full of great seasons. If he doesn't win the Superbowl this year it will be shocking to me. His best career backed up by the best running back in the league, multiple receiving threats, and a killer defense should all lead to the title in February.
P.S.
As of this writing Drew Brees has not played his Week 12 game and is close behind Favre in many categories.
