Living in a Material World and I'm Not a Material Girl

Headlines

"Father in Austria locked up daughter for 24 years and fathered 7 of her children!"

"Global monetary Crunch"

"Food costs to Soar"

Just three headlines in the newspaper that I read occasionally. Actually, I have stopped watching the News on TV, reading daily newspapers and try to avoid anything negative. So, when I realize that my own inner feelings are at odds with those of my friends and a vast amount of society, how does a person like me live in this material world?

Oh, I have ambitions and have recently finished my 3rd book entitled WITCH; for those of you who are not familar with my work I am a celtic witch and author of KARMA (a spiritual book), Aromatherapy & Herbalism (a healing for physical and mental ailment book) and Spiritual Whispers, a poetry book. So, you see, I'm not trying to say that ambition or success is wrong, for me, this world seems to be based on what car you drive, how much you earn, where your kids go to school and so forth.

The Headlines I have taken as just a sample of what I read really are manic. Take the first one for instance; "Father in Austria locked up his daughter for 24 years and fathered 7 children with her". I can hardly believe this, it is not in my moral nor basic human understanding that such an evil act could be carried out by a Father to his child. I dwelt on this all day after reading it and could not come to grips that this case is real. I am still dumbfounded and upset that such vile acts can be carried out by human beings - not even an animal would do that to their own.

I could take subjects from global warming since the Industrial Revolution to SUV"S. Should I be thankful that the system that I live in provides medicine, excellent modes of transport and new technology? This is a dilemma so let me take the SUV and think about this one material option. I could buy a small dinky toy car which is better for the environment, runs on less gas and emits less into our atmosphere OR, should I buy the lovely big SUV which I can put as many kids, dogs, saddles and bridles into and still have room for a family of five? I like the height of the SUV, it works for me personally as I have horses, cats, dogs etc., and it is more secure if I do happen to have a crash (which I did the other day and mangled a small little car when I tapped it at 10k per hour wheras my SUV only cracked the registration plate).

Since the Industrial Revolution people moved from the country into the city for a better life. We forgot how to live with nature and to utilize the amazing powers of plants, herbs and essential oils to heal our ailments. Now that the vast majority live in large cities, away from nature, is it really a better life? Another topics that a moral whirlwind include genetically moderated food, WHY????? I could go on all day however I am not a material girl. I am a celtic witch who daily uses natural recipies, herbal remedies and essential oils plus a plethora of ancient ways to heal mental and physical illnesses. The obsession in the world for genetically modified food just does not make sense to me at all. Why do people want to eat food that has been tampered with genetically?

As a person who has come down through generations of family who use natural remedies and Mother Nature to heal, my conscience is not at ease nor my confidence in today's material world. We are told that "we need", "if you buy this you will be more attractive", by advertising companies worldwide which to me, is inpolitically correct. The social conscience is becoming so relaxed it is bordering on lethargy. We have brought up a generation of children who expect rather than need the latest DVD, Car, Holiday, and we have lost the ability to recognize whether we are causing problems by granting these favors or simply spoiling our children. Then you have your friends who always have something to add to your parenting dilemma. They expose you and accuse you, in the nicest manner, of being overly strict or overly lax.

Labyrinths within Labyrinths - all I can do is stict to my own ideals. I dont need to impress anyone except myself.

What do I do when my own ethos is at odds with modern society? Do I drive my SUV or do I lie awake at night thinking about the damage I am doing to the environment? An what is all this about genetically modified foods???
