Undersized towns also contain a smaller population so they have less pollution than the smog polluted cities may have. In larger towns you also have increased risks of dangers that come with drugs, violence and overcrowding. These factors alone can raise the stress level of the individuals living there. Towns with a smaller population of drugs, violence, and overcrowding have less stress and anxiety. This influences the overall mood of the citizens of the town and you will see more pleasant attitudes and moods in a small town.
A downside of a small town is the quantity and quality of jobs that it may have within its boundaries. It also increases the difficulty of getting a high paying job in a certain field. A big sacrifice people living in small towns have to make is the hassle of commuting. Many find the time that they have to spend driving is well worth the sacrifice of the peace of mind that they receive living in a small, less populated area. The ideas that they can leave their door unlocked and still feel safe or their children can play down the road and nothing happen is something many residents of small towns appreciate. This doesn't mean that it still can not happen but the likelihood of it happening is smaller.
The benefits and disadvantages of living in a small town versus a bigger city really depend on the person and what they like and dislike. A smaller town doesn't have the entertainment, activities, and night life say that a large city may have. An individual who craves excitement might not find that in a small town as much as they would in a large city. Small towns with a tiny population usually have entertainment that consists of a movie store, movie theatre, restaurants, and something along the lines of bowling or skating. If you want the advantages of one it usually comes with its disadvantages. In a big city you will also find higher paying jobs and more opportunities.
Smaller towns can be good for the individual looking to retire, raise small children, or escape the hustle of a big city. The place you call home and where you reside depends on what you consider to be a good area to live, raise a family and eventually retire. As an individual that grew up in smaller and more secluded towns my whole life I find peace of mind and tranquility residing in a country town. I could not see myself living anywhere else.
