Liz Cheney's "Keep America Safe" Has New Anti-Obama Ad

Liz Cheney's political advocacy group, Keep America Safe, has produced an ad entitled "100 Hours" which echoes some of the criticisms leveled by Cheney's father, Dick Cheney, against the slow response to the attempted Christmas bombing.

The "100 Hours" ad has echoes of the hit TV show "24" in which super agent Jack Bauer regularly saves the world in the space of 24 hours. The difference is that the "100 Hours " ad by Liz Cheney's Keep America Safe group displays Obama administration officials claiming that "the system worked," and Barack Obama himself whiling away the time playing golf.

The effect of the "100 Hours" ad is devastating and has had the response from Obama defenders that one might expect. Writing in Think Progress, Faiz Shakir called the ad a "hypocritical attack ad" from a "neoconservative political attack organization." Shakir compared Obama's slow response to the attempted Christmas bombing to President George W. Bush's response to Richard Reid, the attempted shoe bomber.

Still, the theme of "Keep American Safe" is a powerful one, considering the anxiety that many Americans feel about President Obama's stewardship of national security. Scott Brown, who is running for the US Senate in Massachusetts, has an ad out in which he attacks his opponent Martha Coakley for being soft on national security, entitled "Keeping America Safe."

Many pundits believe that President Obama has taken two strikes on national security. The first strike was the Fort Hood Massacre, in which a Muslim Army officer shot a number of his fellow soldiers in the name of jihad. The second strike was the attempted Christmas bombing, in which a Muslim from Nigeria attempted to detonate a bomb concealed in his underwear on board an airliner in the skies over Detroit.

The critics of Obama national and homeland security policy raises the ominous question. What if there is a Strike Three? George W. Bush had no successful terrorist attacks on American soil on his watch from 9/11 until the end of his last term. Within a year, Barack Obama has had at least one successful attack and one that was unsuccessful only due to a faulty bomb and the quick thinking courage of a Dutch airline passenger.

Many people believe that a third terrorist attack, especially one that inflicts mass casualties, will be the end of the Obama Presidency. From then until January 20^th, 2013, unless he resigned or was impeached, President Obama would be essentially a dead man walking, a shadow of a President holding the office until someone like Sarah Palin could be elected to fill it for real.

Much would depend on when the third attack happened. The closet it occurs to election day, 2012, the less time President Obama would have to recover. Terrorism sank President Carter and made way for Ronald Reagan. Does a similar fate away the 21^st Century Carter, Barack Obama?
