LL Cool J Vs Sarah Palin

A Real American Story

Michelle Foster
It is the video that everyone is screaming about. LL Cool J posted on his twitter page, "Fox lifted an old interview I gave in 2008 to someone else & are misrepresenting to the public in order to promote Sarah Palins Show. WOW" 6:59 PM, March 30th.

But did Fox really lift the interview that he did with someone else and put a different spin on it, or did they simply pull stock footage, without changing the content, and plan to use it in the show, just like the stock footage that they planned to use of Toby Keith, who has also stated that it was an old interview?

Here is the transcript of the trailer in question: "Real American Stories," Sarah Palin.

"As Americans, we aspire to greatness! When we dream, we dream big. We reach out, we pick each other up, and pride ourselves on our make-up and our character. Welcome to Real American Stories. This is a place where real people, from all walks of life, share their own personal stories. [Sound-bite-man one] 'We were told that I was going to die...' [Sarah VO] From embracing our entrepreneurial spirit, [Sound- bite-man two] 'Have the guts to break tradition,' [We see a girl with 2 prosthetic legs at a swimming pool- Sarah VO] to overcoming adversity [Sound-bite, VO-woman one] 'she has no limitations,' [Sarah VO] to reaching out to others in need [Sound-bite-man 3] 'We wanna give these kids the same opportunity to, [Sarah VO] with every story, we find out a little more about what it means to be an American [Cut to stock-911-Trade Center rubble-man 4] 'You heard a thousand men scream, YEAH!' [Sarah VO] our greatest dreams [Kid on crutches with dog-cut to-woman 2] 'I will walk you Elliot, I will walk you' [Soldiers fighting-Sarah VO] our love of country [Cut to Toby Keith] 'I want to go see some dudes nobody ever sees' [Cut to green fuzzy mascot-cut to kitchen-man 4] 'It's my life, and I love it. And I'm gonna do it till the day I die.' [Cut to Sarah] Yes, America is a great country. Be inspired, and join me as we celebrate the American Spirit. [Fade to Statue of Liberty in the sunset-roll time slot and station-fade to black] END TRAILER.

Here is a transcript of the interview that LL Cool J made the post on his Twitter page about:

[LL Cool J-sitting in front of camera wearing blue baseball shirt and cap] "America is a great example of a place where democracy really works. It's not perfect, it it has flaws. Um, it could be better, but I think that as we move forward, as a country uh it's getting better and better and I think I'm livin proof of that. [Pause, show pics of man toting a bundle of sticks] My gran-father came from Barbados to America. His whole family, [Fade to picture of house] it was all about the work ethic and you know, the main focus was always ta you know, you know, fix your own car, do it yourself, go after your dreams. [Fade to pics of Grandfather in combat gear with other soldiers] He served in the military and uh, you know, just really believed in this country and just really believed that you can make it here. I was raised with that uh, with that loyalty to America, [Cut to LL Cool J] because I was raised by a veteran, and always instilled in me that I could do anything I wanted to if I put my mind to it, and uh, bein in America made that possible because of the freedoms that we have we're able to actually turn our imaginations and our visions into reality, an uh, that's an amazing thing.

I think that as Americans, while there is room for improvement, we have to be careful not to get spoiled and we have to count our blessings a little bit. Like the average New Yorker, you know, you know, how many times did we go to the top of the Trade Center before that took place? [Cut to pic of Twin Towers still standing] I didn't really go up there that much, now it's hit, maybe I should've. You know when I watched Boston win the NBA Championship the other day,[Cut to picture of Kevin Garnett] the thing that struck me was when Kevin Garnett in all his emotional, in that emotional frenzy was screamin out 'Anything is possible,' and I think that kinda summed up America in alotta ways. When people see that comin togetha,[Cut to picture of children draping huge American flag around them] there there are benefits that come along with unity, I think they'll be much more inclined to unify and become a part of one family. [Cut to LL Cool J] Unity can bring about positive results be because people join winners. My name is LL Cool J and this is my American story." [Fade to black] END SCRIPT

If Fox were trying to make the video look like a new interview, why would they leave the quote in there about Kevin Garnett, "...You know when I watched Boston win the NBA Championship the other day..." referring to the June 18th, 2008 Boston win in which Kevin Garnett was blasted for misquoting his sponsor, Adidas, by screaming out, "Anything is possible! Anything is possible!!!"

Adidas' slogan is "Impossible is nothing."

Ironically, it is the slogan of a Chinese shoe company named 'Lining,' whose slogan is, "Yiqie jieyou keneng," translated (As the façade of the building in picture one shows) "Anything is possible." (First reported by CNBC).

Fox, in response said that they would not use the footage (Though it would seem that they have the right to do so) since it bothered Cool, and then went on to wish him "Good luck in your fledgling career."

Here are the links to the pages with the videos and the story about Kevin Garnett. You decide.

The one thing we can pretty much all agree on is: "Unity can bring about positive results, because people join winners. My name is LL Cool J, and this is my American Story..."
