LL Cool J's Exit 13: Early Album Review

Does LL Deliver on His Last Album on Def Jam?

The Reviewer
LL Cool J is arguably the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) when it comes to rap music. He has had one of the longest careers in the history of rap spanning over twenty years. After twelve albums on famed Def Jam Records LL is primed to release his last album Exit 13 on his Def Jam contract. Will Exit 13 leave up to his legendary legacy?

The first single off of Exit 13 is The-Dream featured Baby. The song features a simplistic beat with a very catchy hook delivered by The-Dream. Some of the subject matter on the album is hard to listen to coming from LL Cool J. His flow is dramatically different than past singles.

Also on the album is the rock version of Baby featuring Richie Sambora from Bon Jovi. The song has a completely different vibe and a few modified lyrics. Richie Sambora delivers solid vocals that enhance the track.

The second single is Feel My Heart Beat featuring 50 Cent. The track is produced by Scott Storch. The song is a typical 50 Cent featured collaboration however; this time with a 1970's vibe to it.

Mr. President features Wyclef Jean and is one of LL Cool J's most consciously centered tracks ever. The song touches on all of the important issues facing the world today.

DJ Scratch produces Rockin' With The G.O.A.T. The song is much harder than you expect from LL Cool J. The tone and the aggression from his early days are back in his flow.

Cry teams LL Cool J with Lil Mo. The song has the same feeling as all of those classic singles that paired Lil Mo with Ja Rule. The song is one of the better tracks on the album.

Ringtone Murder features the legendary Grandmaster Caz. The song sounds like it is straight out of the 1980's. LL has the hunger and desire in his flow that has been missing on his last several albums.

LL teams with Elan from The D.E.Y. on the Jonathan "J.R." Rotem produced I Fall In Love. The track is what we have come to expect from LL as a rapper and appeals to the female audience.

Scott Storch produces Come And Party With Me which features Fat Joe and Sheek Louch. The track is a typical posse cut.

Like A Radio is produced by and features Ryan Leslie. The track is nothing just fair and nothing special.

Overall LL Cool J comes strong on his last album on Def Jam. The song selection is solid and it is one of his best efforts in recent memory. Overall Exit 13 gets 8 out of 10. If you are a fan of the legendary LL Cool J, make sure you pick up Exit 13 when it is available in stores on September 9th.
