Lloyd's Lessons in Love: Early Album Review

Does Lessons in Love Top Street Love?

The Reviewer
On R&B singer Lloyd's last album, the New Orleans-born and Atlanta-raised crooner received mainstream attention and success. Street Love produced the monster hits You, featuring Lil Wayne, and Get It Shawty. Now, Lloyd is back with his third album, Lessons In Love. Will Lessons In Love be able to fill Street Love's big shoes?

The first single off of Lessons In Love is Girls Around The World featuring Lil Wayne. The track is a sample of the 1980's Eric B & Rakim classic Paid In Full. Jasper & Big Reese produced the track which is the perfect choice for the first single. The song is incredibly catchy and recaptures the magic between Lloyd and Lil Wayne.

The second single is the Eric Hudson produced The Year Of The Lover. The song shows off a more mature sounding Lloyd which is a welcome change. The track is a solid mid-tempo R&B track.

Polow Da Don produces Party All Over Your Body. The song is a very progressively sounding R&B track. The song features Lloyd using the now legendary Antares Autotune briefly.

Jasper & Big Reese produce Touched By An Angel. The track is another old school 1980's influenced song. Lloyd shines on the solid mid-tempo track.

Treat U Good once again features production from Eric Hudson. The track is fairly interesting. The strong point of the track is definitely the production which is very unique.

Usher's young producer J. Lack produces I'm Wit It. The duo last worked together on Lloyd's hit Get It Shawty off of his last album Street Love. This song has a completely different vibe from Get It Shawty but the track is very catchy and well produced.

Love Making 101 is also produced by Eric Hudson. The song features heavy guitar instrumentation which just makes the track completely different than other tracks on the marketplace.

Oak of The Knightwritaz produces I Can Change Your Life. The song like most of the album is very well produced. The track is fairly catchy.

The album closes with the Adonis produced Heart Attack. The song is fairly catchy and well produced. However, the track just is not memorable.

Lessons In Love is very different than Street Love. This album features a more mature-sounding Lloyd, which is both good and bad. The album does not feature the commercial appeal of Street Love as it is much more of an R&B album as opposed to being a commercialized pop album. Overall, Lessons In Love gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Lloyd, make sure you pick up Lessons In Love when it is available in stores on August 5th.
