The other day my family and I were going to our favorite local ice cream store and, as we entered the driveway of the little strip mall, we noticed there were signs for two ice cream shops. My son smiled and wanted to visit them both. My husband noticed the sign for Loard's Ice Cream and was just as excited as my son. I asked him why, mainly because I had never heard of this shop. My husband used to live in the East Bay and was shocked to see this company down here. Being a loyal Baskin Robbins girl, I will admit I was hesitant, but I was willing to try out this new treat.
The staff at this location was absolutely phenomenal. They immediately welcomed us into their shop, smiling the entire time. The wall behind them listed almost every flavor they had. I started reading it and was told that not all of the 50+ flavors were there. My eyes went back down to the freezer cases as my son picked Lime Sherbet for his treat. My young daughter also wanted a cup of "cold cold", her word for ice cream, but she couldn't decide. I decided for her and she also got a small cup of Lime Sherbet. They both sat down to enjoy their new treasure while my husband tried to decide on his. I chatted with the employees and they informed me that Loard's has been around since 1950, mainly in East Bay and Central Valley. I blushed and told them I had never heard of their company, but my husband, who used to live in Hayward, did.
This Sunnyvale location is the first for the South Bay, and there is also a second new one at 2668 Monterey Road #150 in San Jose.
My husband finally decided on a Butterscotch Marble Malt. The nice people behind the counter looked at each other and smiled. As it was being made, they explained why they smiled at the request. Apparently, the cast of Harry Potter drank Butterscotch Marble Malts while filming the latest movie. This particular treat is the Harry Potter Butterbeer! She told me that people come in and request a "Butterbeer from Harry Potter" please and now know it is actually Butterscotch Marble Malt. I tried a sip of it and it was absolutely delicious.
This is a wonderful little shop and I recommend it to anyone who loves ice cream. Yes, I am a loyal Baskin Robbins fan, but I am now a Loard's Ice Cream fan, too. Give them a call at 408-732-3350. They have cakes and many treats to-go as well.
See you there!

Post a CommentI can eat ice cream any time of year.
Great new place to enjoy icecream.
YUM that sounds tasty! I would love a mug of Butterbeer... or some good old Mint Chip ice cream! And if one doesn't have a fireplace, they could always fire up their Nimbus 2000 and fly there!
Thanks for the heads up on this place! It's not far at all from my home and work. I'd travel from far and wide for a mug of Butterbeer! I think anyone could get there if they used the flue network. ;)
It's a little far, even for ice cream!
