WJSII
At one point in time or another we have all questioned our ancestry. Where did my family originate? Are there any outlaws in my family history? What occupations did my family work in? How long have they lived in this area? These are just few of the questions most of us may have about our family tree. Once you have scoured your living family's brain you may wish to take your search a little farther. Here are a few local resources to do some research on your family in the Jellico/Campbell County, TN area.

They offer several books on genealogy (non circulating) as well as local history books. The Society meets on the third Thursday of every month. Membership is $16 a year.

4. Coal mining records. Since coal mining operations were the boom that started the growth of Jellico and surrounding areas, some of these records will prove to be invaluable. On this site there is a list of doctor slips for people working for The Blue Diamond Coal Company, a list of the coal mines that were in operation in Campbell county in the early 1900's, and a list of several disasters that happened due to mining activity and the names of those killed or injured.

Eventually it will be necessary to branch out into other state and even federal records to continue your search. These resources will get you started and take you back to at least the early 1800's if your family has been in the area that long. Good luck, and enjoy the hunt.
