The 4th of July is only a few weeks away, and many families are looking for local events to participate in. The following is a listing of the latest events planned for this holiday in our area.

Springfield

Star Spangled Springfield

July 2nd @ 8pm - Spirit of America is performing at Golden Bear Stadium at Western New England College in Springfield. Admission is free

July 4th @ 9:30 pm - Memorial bridge in Downtown Springfield continues its annual celebration with Fireworks at 9:30 pm. Mix 93.1 will be airing a musical simulcast to accompany the fireworks. Public is encouraged to get there early and bring their own blankets and chairs, and please remember to clean up after yourselves!

Longmeadow

Jaycee's Summer Carnival and Fireworks

June 30th-July 3rd@ Veteran's Green in East Longmeadow - This annual five day festival begins at 6pm each day. Family friendly events are planned, along with live music and concession stands. Fireworks will be launched from the High School grounds @ 10pm July 3rd. Admission is free, but there is a charge for rides and concessions. Discount coupons can be found at local establishments such as Subway, Pizza Shoppe, and Fenway Golf. There are also discounted price bracelets available each night.

Chicopee

Fest-of-All @ Szot Park

This yearly event takes place July 2nd - July 5th. Kickoff begins at 5pm on Thursday.

The hours for Fest-of-All 2009 are as follows:

Thursday: 5pm-9pm

Friday: 11am- 10 pm

Saturday: 11am-10pm

Sunday: 11am-9pm

Admission and entertainment is free, and many events are lined up for this year. Such events include a Classic car show, a Cell-phone tossing contest, and Motorcycle poker run. Kids activities include a soccer tournament, rides, and a Junior karaoke contest. Charter Communications will be hosting a free Free Child ID program 12:00pm - 5:00pm on Sunday.
Events also include a fireworks display Saturday the 4th at 9:30 pm.

Holyoke

The Holyoke Community College will be the location for this community celebration. A carnival begins at 6pm on the 3rd, with free admission. Children's events are planned, and there will be food stands available. The Holyoke community College is located at 303 Homestead Ave., Holyoke, MA.The Fireworks display will be held at dusk.

Westfield

Third Annual Grand Ole 4th of July

July 3rd @ Stanley Park in Westfield

The celebration begins at 5:30 pm with live music, rides and food for the whole family. The Grand Fireworks Extravaganza takes place at dusk.
