Local Historical Society Hosts Toys for Tots Car Show in Bloomington, CA
Toys for Tots.... Henry Ford Would Be Proud
Bloomington, ca 92316
Third Annual Toys for Tots Car Show is being hosted by the Bloomington Preservation Foundation. Everyone with a classic or not so classic car is welcome to attend. The show starts at 9AM and will end around noon on Dec. 3rd. Plaques and raffle prizes on site. "This car show is very important" says Virginia Geil, "not only to the children but to the folks who care enough to bring a toy. These are the kind of folks who want to help a child have a Merry Christmas". Geil 83 says she remembers times when she was a child sharing what few gifts the family could afford. She remembers growing up in the depression and believes she is a more caring person for that reason.
"Last years show car lined the street and around the corners, it was great" says Ginger Elliot "we had so many toys the firemen needed to come in the Big Engine to take them away" This years show should be that much better. If you don't have a toy that's no problem just make a donation with the DJ and she'll gladly sign you up.
Bloomington Garage History
The Bloomington Garage was built in 1912 by the La Gue Family, it was the first service station in the inland corridor. The old garage saw many changes and once had a silent film star Mary Pickford stay inside, In the late 1960's the Bloomington Garage closed its doors for the last time. In 1990's the building was deemed a historic point of interest in the State and it was thought that should protect the building from demolish ion. Wrong by 1997 the corner where it sat became far to valuable for the old Garage. The building was relocated in the late 1900's and now sits in Bloomington Ol Town Plaza. The move and restoration have all been done by donation and local involvement.
The public is invited to come and see what they can do to help finish this project and enjoy the car show on December 3rd, 9am 2006....the Bloomington Garage is a one of a kind building when you see it you Will realize why.
