Memorial day is May 25th, a day to remember and honor those men and women who have died over the years, in selfless servitude to our country. Many of them having died in battle, fighting for our freedom, our very way of life. And on this very special day, every American should take the time to give them the respect and honor that each one of those men and women deserve.

To celebrate memorial day, there are many wonderful events being planned, in my home town of Spartanburg, South Carolina. The most recognized event being the Pontiac freedom weekend aloft that takes place May 22nd through May 25th at the heritage park amphitheater. Featuring hot balloon competitions, amphitheater concerts, displays by local restaurants, rides for the kids, and lots of other great entertainment, its sure to be fun for all. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Bi-lo center in Greenville, 2 people are admitted for $10.00, providing the tickets are purchased sometime between April 15th and 30th, after that its $7.50 each. At the gate its $10.00 per admission and parking is $5.00. Kids 13 and under are free.

The Spartanburg community band will also be honoring those who have fallen in battle, by performing in the Rose garden at USC Upstate, on May 24th at 7 p.m. The community band is a group made up of local area band members. There will be games, a Frisbee dog contest and fireworks.

Spartanburg county parks and recreation dept will be having a kids fest at Cleveland park on may 24th 2009, celebrating memorial day, in an attempt to teach kids about its significance, and what it means to support those who have died in service, and those who continually put there lives on the line everyday for there country. Several local area churches will be selling barbecue pork, chicken, hash, ribs, you name it, if it can be barbecued your sure to find it in here in the Carolinas, on memorial day. A large percentage of the churches, donate proceeds from there barbecue sales to local charities. Besides the community celebrations, families everywhere will be remembering and honoring those who have fallen in the line of service, with family cookouts, parties, and firework displays. Take a moment on May 25th and do your part to celebrate family, and remember those men and women who are no longer with us.
