Old World Deli is like a nook and cranny place in Binghamton, NY. Not many people have heard of it because from the outside it looks small but to those who have eaten there and know about it, the reviews have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. Old World Deli has a lot of seating inside and the deli meat and sandwiches are fresh and big...very big. You pay about the average price for a sandwich but you get a stuffed sandwich in return that guarantees will fill you up when you finish eating it. Sandwiches usually come with a deli pickle or coleslaw and of course you can order tomatoes, onions, or lettuce with your deli sandwich.
Old World Deli is located right next to the courthouses in Binghamton so you get a lot of lawyers and judges who go there for lunch. They love talking about politics and the law, which you can often hear as a customer in the store. The people who work at Old World Deli are friendly and make your food quickly so that you have more time to sit down and enjoy your food.
The only downside to Old World Deli is that they have horrible hours that they are open for customers. They are closed on weekends and close early on weekdays. There is really no explanation for their odd hours other than the fact that they are never that busy. The downtown Binghamton area doesn't get nearly as much traffic as it should because the area is for the most part, undeveloped. It probably makes more business sense through a financial perspective for them to be closed on weekends or on nights.
Another bad aspect of Old World Deli is that parking can be difficult to find on some days. The parking regulations with regards to side street parking restrict parking to a large extent. There is a parking garage which most people in that area of town use, although most people don't like paying for parking. However, if you're lucky enough, you may be able to find a parking spot a few blocks away.
In getting back to the reason why I enjoy Old World Deli, is that I enjoy mom and pop stores that are different from corporate stores like Subway or Blimpie. Every now and then, its time to go to a different store and see a new menu and taste something different.
