For me, Summertime has always meant funnel cakes and deep friend Twinkies. Not only is it a great time to shop (especially in a small town where the selection at local stores can be lacking), but it offers the perfect chance to spend time with one's family. In Carbon County, Utah, there are several annual events that mean fun, sun, and family time every year.

International Days

Held at Washington Park each year during the last weekend in July, International Days celebrates the diversity of our county. As a coal mining town, we have families descended from many countries around the world. This heritage is honored the last Thursday of July (July 28, 2011) during the opening ceremonies held in the Peace Garden on Main Street. Bring the family, a blanket and a picnic dinner to enjoy the show that evening. Also on Thursday, Price City's Desert Wave Pool (adjacent to Washington Park) will host their annual Day at the Beach Free Pool Party. Friday and Saturday will find the festivities in Washington Park. Venders from around the Intermountain West will bring clothing, jewelry, leather works and, most importantly, fair food, to the park beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting until sunset each evening. Each year, local artists perform on the Main Stage at the South end of the park. Local bands and karaoke stars will perform all day. Don't forget the parade on Saturday. This is Carbon County's largest parade, and since this year marks Price City's 100th birthday, they are planning the biggest event ever!

Carbon County Demolition Derby

Held every year at the Carbon County Fairgrounds facility, the Demolition Derby may be a one night event, but it's one of the biggest in town. Produced by Carbon County Search and Rescue, this event is the major fund raiser for this much needed organization. Tickets can be purchased in advance at various establishments, including Tire King (Main Street Price), Stop-n-Shop (Main Street, Wellington), and either of the Market Express locations in Price, Utah. Advance tickets are only $7.00 for adults; $6.00 for children ages 16 -18 years, and all children six and under are complimentary. You can pay at the gate for $1.00 more per ticket. If you would like information on entering a car and driver, please stop by Tire King for an application and a rules packet.

This event is one night only, but has long been a standard in Carbon County. Bring your stadium seats and the whole family to cheer on your favorite team.
