Local TV Stations Sponsor Cardinal Baseball Opening Day Events

Agnes Farside
Thursday, March 31, 2011, is opening day for the St. Louis Cardinals, who are hosting the San Diego Padres; game time is 3:15 p.m. Cardinal fans will be out in droves, wearing cardinal t-shirts, hats and jackets, supporting their team. A sea of red will descend on the St. Louis downtown area as fans attend opening day events, many within walking distant of Busch Stadium and many sponsored by local TV stations.

CBS-KMOX

Join the gang headed for the KMOX/Dave Sinclair Automotive Kegs and Eggs Party, sponsored by the Shane Company and KMOX. This opening day party is located east of Busch Stadium on the Turns lot in a heated tent with private restrooms. The brunch begins at 9:00 a.m., and will be catered by Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. There will be plenty to eat with lots of beer and Bloody Marys. This opening day event will prove to be well worth the $40 as it is featuring surprise guests. One can only imagine who those special guests might be.

News Channel 5-KSDK

News Channel 5-KSDK is hosting an Opening Day Pep Rally at Joe Bucks from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Joe Buck's is located at 1000 Clark Avenue, just a couple blocks from Busch Stadium. Performing will be Butch Wax and the Hollywoods. Opening Day tickets and complimentary Cardinals Opening Day beads will be handed out by special guest former Cardinals shortstop Ozzie Smith, sports announcer Joe Buck, and Cardinal's mascot Fredbird.

Registration on the day of the event is required to win the tickets, as well as a pledge to Hang Up and Drive. You must be present to win and everyone who makes a pledge will be registered to win a new Ford Fiesta.

FOX 2-KTVI

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Fox 2-KMOV will be celebrating at the PNC Bank Home Opener at Kiener Plaza, located on 7th street, two blocks from Busch Stadium. Sponsored by Dobbs Tire and Auto Centers, McDonalds and Fox 2-KMOV, this Opening Day Pep Rally will be one of the largest going on in the area and will include live area radio station broadcasts, food booths, and Cardinal merchandise stands.

With so many Opening Day events going on in and around the downtown St. Louis area, it may be hard to decide which one to attend. If you have the day off, why not spend a little time at a few of them.
