Celebrate Thanksgiving with the community. The following events, compiled from a variety of resoures, are local to residents of Western Loudoun County, Virginia.

Archery Turkey Shoot - 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Franklin Park (Purcellville)

Archery contest for children aged 9 and up. The three best shooters will each win a free frozen turkey. Fee to enter contest is $15 dollars. Contestants' parents call (540) 338-7603 for more information and to register. More information

Leesburg "Freeze Your Gizzard" 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run - 9:05am, Ida Lee Park

Join fellow runners and joggers for a chilly run in historic Leesburg for Loudoun Interfaith Relief! All 5k runners will receive a free long-sleeve T-shirt; the three top racers will receive a Thanksgiving-related prize. A party follows the events at the Gazebo. Participants must bring two cans of food to enter either event in addition to the entry fee. Register online or the day of the race; discount on entry fee if registering in advance. Country Breakfast - 7:00am to 11:00am, Christian Community Church at St. Paul's

This community breakfast information courtesy of the Purcellville Gazette. St. Paul's is located in the valley near Harpers Ferry at 12623 Harpers Ferry Road. Free but an offering is requested. Call Pastor England at (301) 432-4574 for more information.

Thanksgiving Fun Run - 8:15am, Crossroads United Methodist Church, Ashburn

While Ashburn is on the Eastern side of the county, runners of all skill levels will enjoy this fun run to benefit an orphanage and school in Lukojjo, Uganda. Runners can choose from one of three courses. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three runners from each gender in both the 10K and 5K races. Additionally, random drawings will be held for other prizes at the after party. A registration fee is required. Fees and registration: More information

Purcellville "Thanksgiving Together" - 11:30am to 2:30pm, Bethany United Methodist Church

If you are alone or on hard times this Thanksgiving, come enjoy a traditional holiday meal with neighbors. If you are alone and cannot attend, home delivery is offered. Likewise, everyone is also invited to volunteer or contribute. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs. This event is a collaboration between several area churches and businesses. "Green Friday" - All Day, Retailers County-wide

Many of Loudoun's farmers and retailers have banded together to offer locally made products for this holiday season. The day after Thanksgiving, traditionally known as "Black Friday" among retailers, Loudoun residents are encouraged to purchase locally made gifts and decorations for the holidays at local retailers.     Lovettsville Community Thanksgiving Service - 7:30pm, Lovettsville Game Club
    An ecumenical community service for the Lovettsville area. Bring canned foods and food cards to benefit the local food pantry. The offering (money donations) will be given to Lovettsville Elementary's "Helping Hands Funds". The service itself will give thanks for all our blessings, but especially for our schools and the people who work so hard to educate the children in our community.

    Those are some really great events. My kids would love to be a part of an archery competition. They don't see many activities like that where we live. Great Article and Ideas!
