Locally Owned Breakfast Spots in Blacksburg, Virginia

Unique Places to Have Breakfast Close to Virginia Tech

Going out for breakfast on Sunday is a weekly tradition for my boyfriend and me. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be too many restaurants offering breakfast in Blacksburg, Virginia. After a couple of weeks of looking around, we have found several unique and tasty options.

Sharkey's on Main Streetoffers a good breakfast buffet along with other options that you can order. The buffet included: bacon, sausage links, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, grits and eggs. They also offer breakfast quesadillas with egg and either sausage or bacon with a side of salsa. I am a big fan of bloody marys. Sharkey's version was really good but a little too spicy but that was my own problem. Sharkey's offers an outdoor patio area. It offers good people watching and a nice place to enjoy Sunday morning sun. The crowd is a mixed bunch of college students and families. Breakfast is served Saturday and Sunday's only from 10-1 pm.

Gillie's on College Ave is different from the rest of breakfast places in that it is a vegetarian restaurant. So that means no bacon or sausage but their breakfast menu more than makes up for that! My favorite dish is the Gillie's special, its scrambled eggs over home fries, topped with homemade chunky salsa and cheese. It's served with a large homemade biscuit. The place is very earthy and hippy. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they do a great job making sure that your coffee is topped off. Open at 7 am daily.

If you are looking for a very nice place for brunch, Preston's located at the Inn at Virginia Tech is the place to go. Preston's is a little pricey but everything on their buffet is the highest quality. The usual price per person is $16.00 plus drink and tip. The location is beautiful and menu always includes all of the regular breakfast items and a carving station. Take a look at their website before going; they usually have a coupon for a percentage off your brunch. Preston's does accept reservations and depending on what is going on with the university, reservations might be a good idea. Brunch is served from 11:30 to 1 pm on Sundays only.
