Lock Jaw

Sometimes Words Hurt

Dotchi Latham
Once I say something
I can not open my mouth
and return the words.
The damage is done
once it's been said
and once it's been heard.
So I remain quiet
unless it's something
that I feel strongly about
This way I don't live
second guessing myself
and always in doubt
But that does not mean
I can not feel the sharpness
of your lines
I may often clench my jaws
But my ears are working fine.

Whoever said, "sticks and stones my break my bones but words can never hurt me" obviously wasn't on the short end of the stick of a bad remark! Great poem, cheers.
