LocoMatrix has an open application-programming interface that allows other game development creators to connect and create games. There are currently three games. The games require a GPS enabled phone and a GPS receiver. Text information (and the charge) to download the application is available on the LocoMatrix website.
"Fruit Farmer" is described as a series of "Pacman-like games" where users can choose from different levels of difficulty. A neat video on locomatrix.com details these instructions. A player first decides where they want to play. The GPS satellite pinpoints the exact location. The object is to collect the farmer's oranges as shown on the screen and avoid virtual traps, obstacles and attackers. Keep in mind that these games are not just played on the screen; the fruit is collected in the real world. The game increases in fun and difficulty when other players (opponents) are added. The opponents can be nearby or they can be on the other side of the world. Another fun thing about this games is that users are able to create their own versions using a program on the website.
"Treasure Hunt", a location specific game, is the second game available now. The user follows clues until he actually (physically) ends up at the chosen location. "Treasure Hunt" also has an option for users to create customized hunts for hidden loot.
The third LocoMatrix game is called "Locix". It involves taking possession of an opponent's territories. "Locix" is intriguing in that it can be played "over an extended time periods" and "on foot, wheels, or boat". The specs state that it is adaptable to "four legged animals".
There are plans for games that are based on role-playing and one that will require characters to work in teams to accomplish goals.
LocoMatrix has ambitious plans that include working with schools to further computer education. Started as an attempt to move children away from video and computer games that keep them sedentary, LocoMatrix also has an interest in using the GPS based games in areas such as art and performance.
LocoMatrix wants families to use games together and plans to expand LocoMatrix to other countries.
LocoMatrix will be the next big thing in the gaming industry and in the United States soon.
