Lodge Logic Enameled Cast-Iron 6-Quart Dutch Oven Review

Jamie Cortez
This enameled Dutch oven is an excellent choice for cooking, baking, marinating and even freezing. With 6 qt capacity you can easily cook whole chicken in it. It works well with various types of cook tops so whether you use induction, ceramic, electric or gas cook tops this Dutch oven would do great.

Unlike other cast-iron Dutch oven this one does not need seasoning. The interior surface is made from porcelain which is very robust yet easy to clean. Another great thing about porcelain is that any flavor won't stick to the oven so every dish you make will taste and smell like how they're suppose to be. The cast-iron material distributes heat evenly and has excellent heat retention. As you know a cookware with good heat retention means less heat energy is required to cook your everyday meal (which leads to saving in gas or electric bill).

The Lodge Logic enameled Dutch ovens comes in vibrant red, green and blue color. You have to admit that the colorful enamel really looks beautiful. This enamel layer is resistant to chip and cleaning it is really easy. All you need is to wash it using warm water with a little dish soap and it will come back like brand new. You can also use the dishwasher if you want to since it is dishwasher safe but I still recommend the old trusted way of hand washing just to make sure it will stay looking good for a very long time.

What about the price? I have to say that the price is just right. Unlike some European brands Lodge makes this Dutch oven very affordable. You can get it in most stores for about $50. I have to say that is a bargain considering its quality and longevity. When you have one you're going to use it over and over again.

You may want to note that this enameled Dutch oven is made in China. I know some people can get very picky about using China-made cookware because they are afraid of chemical contamination and such. Lodge, however, has made it very clear that all of their cookware, whether they're made in China or the states, are safe to use. Enamel is usually associated with lead but Lodge uses lead-free enamel for this cookware. Of course you can always test it yourself if you don't believe the claim. Just take one of these Dutch ovens to a university lab near you and ask if they can test if it's really lead-free.
