Logical Reasons to Legalize Hemp

Organic Farmers Still Banned from Growing Hemp in the United States

Hemp has been around for 10,000 years. This crop is grown all over the world. It's produced in China, Europe and Canada. The one exception where it's illegal to grow hemp is the United States. However, it is perfectly legal for U.S. companies to import hemp seeds, hemp oil and other hemp byproducts and sell them here.

The reason hemp production is banned comes from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. They have deemed hemp too similar to the marijuana plant in how they look. If growing the hemp crop was legal, the DEA would have a difficult time distinguishing marijuana plants from hemp plants.

Hemp is related to the marijuana plant (the scientific name is Cannabis Sative), but doesn't have any of the drug like THC component that is present in marijuana. If you consumed hemp food products and took a drug test, you would still pass.

Legalizing the industrial growing of hemp in the United States has hundreds of benefits. Paper made of hemp can save thousands of valuable trees. One acres of hemp will yield as much paper as three acres of trees can yield per year. Many types of paper products can be manufactured from the hemp plants, including computer printer paper and boxes made of corrugated cardboard.

Hemp oil is a natural health supplement. Hemp oil is made from crushed hemp seeds and sells for approximately $30 per gallon. Hemp seed oil has a low amount of saturated fat. If a farmer can cultivate one acre of hemp, the hemp crop returns twice as much oil as one acre of peanuts.

The hemp crop takes only 100 days to fully harvest and does not requires the use of chemical insecticides or pesticides. Hemp grows deep roots, which is beneficial for soil. The business cost of growing hemp is extremely low compared to other crops and it can be grown in many climates.

The abundance of hemp clothing is another reason to legalize hemp. Hemp fabric is soft and cotton-like. Overseas and in Canada, there are new processing techniques which make the hemp so soft. Some popular brands of hemp clothing are Enamore (they are based in London), Rawganique (made in the United States, Canada and Europe) and Hempy's (made in the United States).

It's also possible to purchase hemp handbags, hemp wallets, hemp bed sheets, hemp baby clothing and hemp jewelry. For more information on hemp, please visit my website called www.hempwonders.com.
