Logitech Trackball 90430-04003 and Logitech Cordless Track Ball 09430-0403 Compared

Two Great Versions of a Track Ball Mouse

Susan Antonelli
I was fairly new at the computer world when Hubby and I were garage sailing not so l ong ago. I spotted a strange looking mouse, new in it's package for only $5.00 It had a red ball in the center. It was a Logitech 90430-0403. I grabbed it and ran it over to show it to hubby and he said ."For $5.00 we might as well try it". It was still new in the original blister pac so hubby got it home, unpacked and installed it. I loved it. I had no trouble adjusting to this new version of a mouse. I found it so much easier to use than the regular mouse that I had started out with. This roller ball design gave me a comfort zone for my hand instead of making me use my entire arm and wrist. I'm prone to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome so this problem was alleviated using this mouse design. I can rest my arm and hand while working the ball. I use my pointer finger to move the ball and I needn't move my arm. It requires little or no manipulation. Next to the ball are the right and left click buttons. I had no trouble getting used to this version, after a few minutes I was quite comfortable.

The ball on this Logitech Mouse moves smoothly and is easily removed for cleaning if it gets a bit dusty or gummy after you've used it a lot . You simply pry the red ball out of it's spot, clean it with a soft cloth and just put it back in it's spot. It's that simple. Dropping it doesn't seem to harm it, yup I've been known to drop it. The one dog thought it was a strange new toy, the other dog, much more nervous ananimal thought the sky was falling and ran for cover.

The base of the Logitech 90436 has rubber stopples to keep it from sliding around on your desk top.The design is simple, long and slim at the bottom, widening up toward the top, then curving quickly as it comes to the point where the connecting wire entered the device.Very ergonomic. It's a darker gray and silver in color and made of smooth plastic. A large red ball approximately 1 1/4 inches in diameter sits at the top just below where the connecting wire is. It has right clicker button and a small scroll button on either side of the center. So, it can be used by people who are either left-handed or right-handed. The best advertisement for the roller design is there's no stress on your wrist.I t has auto scroll and you can personalize your buttons.

According to the site this improves control while reducing motion with comfort and precision.

It's available at Office Depot and Staples for $19.99 so we were quite pleased with our garage sale bargain.I would advise looking at the models in the store and playing arund iwth them to see if you feel comfortable with this style of mouse.

After I'd had this for awhile Hubby then decided to check out the other roller boll models and ended up purchasing the Logitech Cordless Track Ball 90436-0403 for $49.95 at Staples. His desk is much more cluttered so the fact that this was wireless, battery operated mouse appealed to him. It does not add to the clutter onhis desk and really cleared up his desk top space. Thisis battery operate, a light will go on when your battery is used up.This is also ambidextrous in design with a scroll wheel and drag lock. It gives you ease of navigation. You can customize this version as well using the software that is included.

So our bargain $5 garage sale purchase led us to a $49.99 purchase but dollar cost averaging comes into play. We're still thrilled with our bargain.
