Lone cowboy on the swing,
looks as if he does not fit in
as the kids play around him and sing.
Is he dreaming of his horse
and days of riding free in the brush?
It does seem like it, of course.
His boots are old but sparkle bright
while he watches the next generation
run around him with utter, unadulterated delight.
The moment will be savored in his cowboy brain
as he takes a break from his single, cowboy life.
Being with his family is his way of remaining sane.
"Get off the swing old man," a grandchild speaks his way.
The lone cowboy looks around at the kids
as they laugh and guffaw through all of this fray.
"I'm off the swing," their grandpa abides,
the youngest one jumping on so fast.
"I guess I'll go sit on the slide."
"Naw," say the kids in unison and fun,
"we're also going to play with that as well
because,
you are also too old for that one!"
