Lone Wolf's Dream: A Step of Faith

TommyElf
The cold bite of the night's chill
Ripped through his fur into his skin
Mingling with his troubled sleep
Underneath the thread bare cover
Of bushes and trees in winter's slumber

His sleep as always is troubled
His mind racing and chasing of dreams
Just barely out of reach
So close and yet so damned far away
The gap of the unknown lays between

Dreams of laying inside of a cage
People outside of it, staring in
Pointing, laughing, taunting
Knowing he cannot reach to them in anger
Held back by a cage of his own making

In the midst of the crowd, she is there
Silently watching him, her eyes never straying
Her mouth opening around a single phrase
But no sound was being brought forth
On her lips he read: "Run Lone Wolf, run to me."

Free of his cage, no threatening crowd around
He runs across the ridge, racing onwards
Towards the sound of her voice, hurrying
The pale eye of the moon lighting his path
Across the cold, wet snows towards her

Across the gorge he spots her, watching him
Her soft gaze falling upon him
Warming him in cold night air
On the arms of the cool, slow breeze he hears
Her voice imploring: "Run Lone Wolf, run to me."

He walks slowly to the edge and looks down
A certain fall to his death
With nothing to span the distance
Too far to jump, no way to get around
He looks back at her with tear-filled eyes

"Faith, Lone Wolf. Faith allows the impossible."
Her voice brushes softly in his ears
Again looking down, seeing the unknowable depths
Lone Wolf steps out into the air between them
A step of Faith
