Lonely Mermaid

Abby Normal
She sits poised atop a concrete perch

She sings an enthralling song of love

to help lonely sailors end their search

she promises each man her undying love

"Run aground on the rocks"

the songs subtext calls to the crew

She will claim the ship you sailed so valiantly

before this night is through

For the taking of these human lives

She has no regret

Because it was within a fisherman's net

that her merman's fate was met

The fishermen sold her merman

lining their pockets with gold

To this day many more widows have been made

or so the lonely mermaid has told
