She sings an enthralling song of love
to help lonely sailors end their search
she promises each man her undying love
"Run aground on the rocks"
the songs subtext calls to the crew
She will claim the ship you sailed so valiantly
before this night is through
For the taking of these human lives
She has no regret
Because it was within a fisherman's net
that her merman's fate was met
The fishermen sold her merman
lining their pockets with gold
To this day many more widows have been made
or so the lonely mermaid has told
