1. Do not under any circumstances drive while you are tired. Being tired and then proceeding to drive puts you in great danger of nodding off. One nod and everything can change in an instant. This is the most important rule of the road. If your tired stop for a coffee break, pull over at a rest stop and take a short nap, just avoid driving.

3. Always have a cell phone. A cell phone is a wonderful thing that can be useful for a number of different things. Use it to call 911 if your in an accident. Call a tow truck if your vehicle becomes disabled. It is always a great idea to have a cell phone whenever you are planning a long distance trip.

4. Check fluid levels and tire pressure. Whenever you make a stop to fill up with gas you should check to make certain that all fluid levels including the oil, radiator coolant, and the windshield washer tank are at the correct level. Check the air pressure in your tires to ensure safety plus it also helps save on gas mileage when tires are properly inflated.

5. Invest in a roadside safety kit and keep it in the vehicle. Know what is in it. It should contain items such as but not limited to: A First Aid kit, flashlight, flares, booster cables, basic tool kit and it it also a wise thing to have a blanket in case of being stranded somewhere.
