Long Distance Friendships

Donna Cavanagh
Before the days of texts and emails
I stayed close with my old friends-well, not so much
Phone calls and letters kept us informed
As they were the only tools to stay in touch

People cry foul when it comes to technology
They claim that personal feeling has been erased
But I sing its praises everyday
Neglected relationships are now embraced

Old friends I have found in cyberspace
The connections easily restored
Private jokes, old memories spring back to life
Renewed friendships are technology's reward

Writing is an isolating profession
I am thankful for my email each day
Long distance friends I have never met
Have become confidantes along the way

Technology is not perfect
The human touch never goes out of style
But a long distance friend whose heart is true
Can always find a minute to text or email a smile

Writing is isolating, as well as working at home, so I thoroughly understand your comments about how much you look forward to emails and long-distance friends. I've always teased the hubby that even my mailman has become a special visitor each day. LOL

Who says virtual reality hasn't arrived yet? We can stay "in touch" with people we have never touched!

Well,I have to say my friends and I are flung all over the country, but we do a good job. I still talk to my two best friends from grammar school, a lot from high school and college too. It's my friends who are so busy with their lives near by that I have the toughest time with. But in the end, we find each other again too.
