Long Island New York Congressional Election Between Bishop and Altschuler Misreported: Oopsy!

One Less Seat for Democrats in Congress

Donald Pennington
It seems that not only did the Democrats lose control of Congress with the 2010 mid-term elections, the Republicans ended up spanking them by one more Congressman than originally believed. Democrat Tim Bishop was called as the winner within hours after the voting ended, but it turns out, the vote tally was off by thousands, and Republican Randy Altschuler won instead...thus far, anyway. While it is possible Tim Bishop could still pull ahead, at this point, the seat goes to Randy Altschuler.

How on Earth does an electronic vote get miscounted?
In an impressively un-biased report, msnbc reported yesterday the Eastern Long Island, New York Congressional race originally showed Bishop leading by thousands, results having been reported via telephone and intermediaries. But officials with the Suffolk County Board of Elections did a routine check of the voting machine memory card, and Altschuler had a lead of just under 400. Was this a case of Democrat-leaning volunteers being a little too, shall we say, enthusiastic for their candidate Tim Bishop? It seems my fellow liberals have been known to perform a little...ahem..."Southern engineering" before.

Just another Republican spot in Congress, it seems. Just another coat of shellac on Pelosi's face...but wait!
Approximately 9,000 absentee ballots remain to be counted, and spokesman Jon Schneider has ordered the vote counts confirmed by hand. So the New York Congressional race is proving to be an interesting one. With a turn of events such as a inaccurate report of electronic votes, we may not be so sure just how the New York Congressional race could turn out. But, right now, all eyes are on the Congressional race results in Long Island, New York between Democrat Tim Bishop and Republican Randy Altschuler. In the mean time, the idea of waiting for accurate vote counts seems a good idea. This leads to the natural question of whether other election results can be trusted on the face.

I'd like to know how the "miscounting" happened too. Hmmm.

Seems there are often "anomalies" in voting. And USUALLY any "found" bags of ballots are 90% for the Democrat. How does that work exactly? AT least the Republican won this one...so far anyway.

I know how the vote got counted wrong. The same way that in certain North Carolina counties a straight Republican ticket vote read as a straight Democrat vote.

One? I bet there are several.

In all my years of programming, I've never heard of such a simple program "miscounting". Perhaps they should triple or quadruple testing processes before unleashing the program to elections.
